According the Niela Miller,  author of  Counseling in Genderland, cross-dressing can be “like an addiction in that it masks pain and deprivation, similar to drugs, alcohol or compulsive sex”.  Here is an example from her book. “When I put the clothes on, I can relax and all my troubles disappear.  It is my greatest pleasure and it’s been the source for strong erotic feelings that help me forget the weight of my obligations.”
